Which index has been considered as the basis for estimation of poverty in rural areas?

Consumer Price Index of Agricultural Workers (CPI-AW)’ has been considered as the basis for estimation of poverty in rural areas.

The current methodology for poverty estimation in India is based on the recommendations of the Tendulkar Committee which is also known as the Expert Group to Review the Methodology for Estimation of Poverty. It was established in 2005.

Pre-independence poverty estimates in India was done by Dadabhai Naoroji in his book, ‘Poverty and the Un-British Rule in India’.
